THE PARISH COUNCIL - ITS STRUCTURE
Parish and Town Councils are the first tier of local government but unlike their counterparts on Borough and County Councils, Parish Councillors did not receive any monetary allowances for the work they do. Although giving their time freely they have to operate to and abide by the same rules and codes of conduct as Borough and County Councillors.
Prestbury Parish Council has fifteen seats with members being elected on a four year cycle. The Parish Council has four main committees each with specific responsibilities. They are -
Allotments Committee
Responsible for the administration of the Blacksmiths Lane Allotments meeting approximately every three months plus holding an annual Rent Collection Meeting where plot holders can raise concerns with Councillors and elected Allotment Tenant representatives.
Assets Committee
Responsible for the administration of the Council's two playing fields and amenities together with assets generally throughout the Parish meeting on a monthly basis. The Committee recommends new purchases of equipment and installations as well as seeking funding opportunities for various projects. The Committee also raises policies for approval as and when necessary.
Finance & General Purposes
Responsible for finance and budget/precept meeting approximately three times a year or when necessary. The Committee is made up of the Chairmen of all three committees plus the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Parish Council.
Planning Committee
Responsible for reviewing planning applications within the Parish and other planning matters meeting on a fortnightly basis throughout the year.
Full Parish Council
All committees report back to full Council, the authorising and responsible body for all decisions taken on behalf of Prestbury Parish Council. The full Council meets every month plus holding an Annual Assembly for the parishioners of Prestbury Parish.
